Senior Public Interest Environmental Attorney

The Environmental Law and Policy Center (ELPC) – the Midwest’s leading environmental advocacy and eco-business innovation organization – seeks to hire a public interest environmental attorney with 10+ years of litigation and policy experience to play a significant leadership role on ELPC’s growing work to promote clean renewable energy development, natural resources protection and global warming solutions in the Great Plains states. The Senior Attorney will work out of ELPC’s new Des Moines or Sioux Falls offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Key role in innovative and successful environmental advocacy program activities in the Great Plains states, including litigation and public policy advocacy. Work with ELPC’s Executive Director and other attorneys and senior policy staff on federal and state court litigation and policy initiatives. Build coalitions to support ELPC’s projects. Participate as member of ELPC’s multidisciplinary project teams including attorneys, M.B.A.s and agricultural economists, policy advocates and communications specialists.

QUALIFICATIONS: At least ten years of litigation and legal advocacy experience. Substantive knowledge in at least one of the following legal fields is preferable: energy, environmental, air quality, land use and/or natural resources law. Strong academic record and public service commitment. Smart self-starter with track record of initiative and success. Strong writing and oral presentation skills required. Should understand and enjoy multifaceted strategic advocacy that involves policy advocacy, media, legislative, and coalition-building approaches conducted in conjunction with effective legal advocacy. An inspired and demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy and an ability to work productively with a team of skilled professionals is required.
