Job Summary
Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society (NPSAS) is seeking a creative, experienced, nonprofit professional to become the Administrative Director for this 30-year-old nonprofit membership organization. NPSAS and its members are committed to the development of a more sustainable society through the promotion of ecologically sound, socially just and economically viable food systems.
Management staff consists of the Administrative Assistant  (AA), the Program Assistant (PA) and the Office Assistant (OA). The team will collaborate to ensure that all areas of the organization’s operations are compatible and coordinated. Each Assistant has specific areas of accountability and is responsible to inform the other team members of activities and needs for their segment of NPSAS’s work. In areas where responsibility overlaps, the team will collaborate to accomplish the mission of NPSAS. The Administrative Director will be responsible for communications with the organization’s Board of Directors. As the leader, the Administrative Director will facilitate the cooperation and collaboration of the staff.
Additional staff may include project managers, accounting staff and consultants.

 
Duties and Responsibilities:

 
Board and Committee Functions
•Act as liaison with the Board of Directors, facilitating communication between the Board and the Management Staff.
•Plan, facilitate and staff Board meetings.
•Assist the Board in developing needed policies and ensure staff compliance to Board Policy.
•Oversee the carrying out of the Board’s directives.
•Oversee and facilitate Strategic Planning and Annual Planning processes. Ensure that projects and programs are in line with the Strategic Plan.
•Staff the Executive, Personnel/Policy, Advocacy and Finance Committees and other Ad hoc Committees as necessary.

 
Public Relations
•Oversee the publication of the organization’s newsletter and communications.
•Communicate and network with other organizations.
•Be the primary spokesperson for the organization.
•Work with the Advocacy Committee and the AAand PAon media planning.

 
General Administration
•Work with the Treasurer, board Finance Committee and Management Staff to develop the annual budget.
•Be accountable for implementation and management of the organization’s overall budget.

 

 
Qualifications
•Experience in, knowledge about and commitment to sustainable/organic agriculture and local food systems essential.
•Excellent relational, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
•Nonprofit management, experience preferred.
•Bachelor degree preferred. Equivalent work experience accepted.
•Background nonprofit financial management, with an emphasis on budget development and oversight a plus.
•Grant writing, experience preferred.
•Personnel management, experience preferred.
•Computer literacy essential.

 

 
Salary 

Negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience. NPSAS is an equal opportunity employer.
