Activist Tools to Protect the Northwoods

It is important that we all do our part to protect the unique natural resources of Northern Wisconsin.

Although we all care about the forests, we do so for a number of different reasons. Some of us treasure the outdoor activities that healthy forests make possible, such as hunting, biking, hiking, skiing, and fishing in clean rivers and lakes. Others are proud environmentalists who are seriously concerned that if our forests are not preserved we may fundamentally change our ecosystems and cause major losses in biodiversity.

Others realize that logging is becoming less and less profitable while the tourist industry grows in the Northwoods and forests as they stand become valuable for new markets on carbon offsets, and that the economy of Northern Wisconsin may be better off down the road if we slow logging of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest (CNNF).

No matter what brings you to this cause, there is no better time than now to get to work on protecting our forests so that they remain for future generations. ELPC staff and our scientist clients have worked to put together this activist tool kit that will make it easier for you to have your say about how your forests are managed. Please use these resources to contact your elected officials and local newspapers and to help us fight for healthy forests and a healthy economy in Northern Wisconsin for years to come. We encourage you to add personal touches to the template letters that emphasize why protecting the CNNF is important to you.
