<p>Position:<br />
Citizen Action/Illinois is hiring a full-time Environmental Organizer to lead our work on the Illinois Campaign to Clean up Diesel Pollution until October 31, 2010, with the possibility of a one year extension. The position will report to the Co-Directors.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:<br />
• Leading the Illinois Campaign to Clean Diesel Pollution.<br />
• Promoting legislative and administrative policy efforts to increase use of technologies that reduce harmful diesel emissions.<br />
• Generating calls and letters from grassroots and grass-tops leaders to targeted officials.<br />
• Organizing town hall meetings, press events, and direct actions<br />
• Developing and maintaining coalition and member database.<br />
• Helping to staff Annual Dinner, Convention and other organizational events.</p>
<p>Qualifications:<br />
• Minimum of six months experience in organizing, issue advocacy, and/or political campaigns.<br />
• The position requires Bachelor’s degree. Degree in environmental studies or related field is a plus.<br />
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, understand a wide array of legislative and political issues, and adapt to fast moving campaigns.<br />
• Well-organized and self-motivated; able to design a work plan, prioritize and meet goals.<br />
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing and delivering presentations. Comfort in interacting with the public, decision makers and media.<br />
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Internet use. Experience in online databases and email marketing is a plus.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Environmental Law &amp; Policy Center (ELPC), based in Midwest is seeking to recruit an Environmental Business Specialist.<br />
ORGANIZATION: ELPC is the Midwest’s leading public interest environmental legal advocacy and eco-business innovation organization.  ELPC’s major program areas include: promoting clean energy development strategies that help to solve global warming problems and reduce environmental degradation by encouraging energy efficiency and renewable energy alternatives to conventional power plants; promoting innovative transportation approaches, such as the development of a Midwest high-speed rail network, that will lead to cleaner air and more jobs; and protecting and preserving critical natural resources that improve the quality of life in our communities. One of ELPC’s premises is that environmental progress and economic development can be achieved together.  ELPC’s multidisciplinary professional staff includes 40 attorneys, M.B.A.s, public policy advocates and communications specialists. ELPC has offices located in Chicago, IL, Des Moines, IA, Jamestown, ND, Sioux Falls, SD, Cleveland, OH, Springfield, IL, and Madison, WI. ELPC was established in 1993 and has an annual budget of $6 million.</p>
<p>RESPONSIBILITIES: The Environmental Business Specialist (EBS) will serve a valuable role within ELPC. This person needs to be an individual who can present ideas in a compelling manner and who possesses a strong entrepreneurial and marketing capacity. In addition to providing important analytical capability the EBS should be comfortable representing ELPC with business groups and other critical constituencies. The EBS is a person who blends strong intellectual and financial analytical skills with an outward and engaging personality.</p>
<p>The EBS will work with ELPC’s senior program team, principally on: (1) ELPC initiatives to promote positive clean renewable energy and energy efficiency development solutions to meet energy needs in the regional power market, and help to solve global warming pollution problems; (2) ELPC’s eco-business partnerships and initiatives to develop and expand the markets for environmentally preferable products and services; and (3) Other ELPC environmental litigation and policy issues in the Midwest and on related federal issues. The Environmental Business Specialist will work around the Midwest and ideally be based in the Chicago office.</p>
<p>The EBS will be challenged to meet the following goals and strategic objectives:<br />
• Collaborate in shaping strategies, providing analysis and carrying out ELPC’s Energy Project, Global Warming Solutions Initiative and Environmental Markets Project.  Help forge innovative partnerships between the business community and environmental advocates.<br />
• Support senior ELPC policy and program team members on clean energy policy advocacy and other eco-business initiatives – potentially serve as expert witness in state and federal public hearings.<br />
• Market development and policy advocacy initiatives to develop more clean energy and environmentally preferable products and services in the Midwest.</p>
<p>PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: The Environmental Business Specialist should ideally possess the following professional experience and personal attributes:</p>
<p>PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:<br />
• M.B.A or Economics background with at least five years of professional experience in strategic planning, project management, marketing or financial analysis in the business sector or economic development field.<br />
• Business experience in strategic planning, economic development or marketing and public interest entrepreneurial skills &#8211; substantive knowledge in energy or transportation sectors preferred.<br />
• An inspired and demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy and the ability to work productively as a member of a team of skilled professionals is required.<br />
• Intellectual agility and demonstrated ability to think strategically.<br />
• A demonstrated interest in environmentally sustainable economic development.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) seeks a full-time Health Policy Director to lead our organization’s efforts to achieve public policy changes that improve the health of Michigan residents by reducing environmental impacts. This position will be based in MEC’s Lansing, Michigan headquarters, and will regularly work with MEC’s Detroit office.</p>
<p>Responsibilities<br />
• Collaborate with MEC staff, board members, and member groups to develop strategies and implement action plans to achieve our environmental health priorities (see below).</p>
<p>• Partner with MEC allies to lead, expand and diversify existing environmental health coalitions and build new alliances around emerging issues as appropriate.</p>
<p>• Educate legislators, agency officials, health professionals, business leaders, and other Michigan decision makers on key environmental health policy issues facing Michigan.</p>
<p>• Respond to media inquiries on environmental health issues.</p>
<p>• Assist in preparing proposals to charitable foundations that support environmental health work and reports on work completed under existing grants.</p>
<p>• Work with colleagues responsible for other MEC environmental programs to identify and capitalize on cross-program opportunities, especially with MEC’s Detroit office.</p>
<p>• Provide content for MEC’s quarterly newsletter, website and other publications.</p>
<p>• Attend state, regional and national environmental health conferences.</p>
<p>• Fulfill office responsibilities shared by our 13-person staff.</p>

<p>Current MEC Health Policy Priorities<br />
• Reducing environmental contributors to asthma<br />
• Addressing environmental links to obesity, including impacts of our built environment and land use decisions<br />
• Preventing lead poisoning<br />
• Reforming state and federal chemical policy<br />
• Reducing pesticide use and exposures<br />
• Advancing general environmental health and safety</p>
<p>Qualifications<br />
• Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree in field related to environmental health preferred.<br />
• Public policy development, advocacy and/or implementation strongly preferred.<br />
• Direct experience in the health care sector a plus (e.g. nursing, public health, etc.).<br />
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.<br />
• Experience and aptitude working in diverse coalitions, alliances or other groups.<br />
• Knowledge of the science and latest discoveries in the environmental health field, particularly as related to priorities listed above.<br />
• Political experience a significant plus.<br />
• Commitment to protection of the environment and public health a must.</p>

The Center for Humans and Nature seeks a person with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree to implement the mission of the Center in the Chicago and Midwest region. We seek an individual with expertise in a field relevant to conservation with a focus on the ethical and philosophical dimensions of conservation challenges. The person will be employed through the Chicago office, reporting to the President of the Center. The position is full time with compensation commensurate with experience. All Center staff members are at will employees. </p>
<p>Program Responsibilities:<br />
Drawing on his/her area of expertise, the Director of Midwest Cultures of Conservation will develop and direct a series of interdisciplinary projects that have the following dimensions:<br />
→ Specific topics relevant to the sustainability/resilience/restoration of human and natural communities in the Chicago and Midwest region<br />
→ Development of conceptual framework(s) that enable the long-term well being of humans and nature in the region<br />
→ Implementation of appropriate methodologies to develop such frameworks (e.g. convening multidisciplinary groups of thought leaders, including academics, policy makers, advocates, and citizen leaders)<br />
→ Identification of audience(s) that will benefit from this framework<br />
→ Completion of product(s) that allow audience(s) access to ideas and frameworks developed </p>
<p>Communications Responsibilities:<br />
The Director of Midwest Cultures of Conservation will directly connect program work with the Center’s communications strategy, including:<br />
→ Using communications channels to broaden the audience for programs and conceptual frameworks<br />
→ Writing blog posts that track activities of core projects<br />
→ Working to build the visibility of the Center, including staff identification with the Center and the work of their core projects </p>
<p>Internal Responsibilities:<br />
The Director of Midwest Cultures of Conservation will play a key role in the development of the Center’s intellectual community and play a role in the Center’s administrative functions. To this end, the person will be able to:<br />
→ Critique and offer insight into the work of all Center colleagues<br />
→ Collaborate across programs and projects with other Center colleagues<br />
→ Manage fiscal/programmatic responsibilities (e.g., develop project budgets/review expenses)<br />
→ Contribute to the overall fundraising goals of the Center </p>
<p>Skills and Qualities:<br />
The successful candidate will be a leader: self-directed, motivated, and organized. This person will build networks of colleagues, work across disciplines, plan well, and meet deadlines. The person will also have excellent writing and communication skills.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Sierra Student Coalition, the national student-run chapter of the Sierra Club, is looking to hire several new Campus Organizers for our Campuses Beyond Coal Campaign.  The Campaign has already built momentum, including articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education and the New York Times blog, as well as thousands of student supporters and strong youth leadership on over 30 campuses across the nation. </p>
<p>Our Campus Organizers will work on several campuses in a state to help students develop and implement grassroots campaigns to kick coal off campus, particularly by targeting on-campus coal plants.  We&#8217;re looking for people who are passionate, strategic-thinkers and have prior organizing experience, especially on campus. </p>
<p>The SSC is committed to equity and we strive to dismantle all forms of oppression in our work, our organization and in the world.  Our staff team serves to mentor and support our youth leaders in developing and achieving their visions and goals.</p>

<p>Job Title:         SSC Organizer, Coal, Location TBD</p>
<p>Department:         Sierra Student Coalition</p>
<p>Reports To:         Field Organizing Manager<br />
Context:         Works with Sierra Student Coalition staff, Sierra Club Coal Campaign staff, chapter/group volunteers and partner organizations to mobilize support for grassroots campaigns, events, trainings and actions to advance the Sierra Student Coalition’s Campuses Beyond Coal campaign on designated college campuses across the country. The Campuses Beyond Coal Campaign works to build grassroots demand to move our nation&#8217;s college and universities off of coal-generated energy. <br />
Scope:         The SSC Coal Organizer works with local volunteers to plan, organize and implement the education and mobilization efforts of the Campuses Beyond Coal campaign on 2-5 different sites.  They will work with student, alumni and faculty and community groups and communicate with officials, the media and the public. <br />
Job Activities:</p>
<p>1.   Mobilizes students to become involved in the Campuses Beyond Coal Campaign visibility/organizing activities.</p>
<p>2.   Assists the appropriate SSC staff and volunteer leaders with planning and implementation of the Campus Beyond Coal Campaign and other programs as assigned, including overseeing volunteer outreach, handling lists and databases of campaign activists and supporters, and making arrangements for events and activities.</p>
<p>3.   Provides program support as needed, including handling phone and email inquiries, administrative support such as faxing and mailings, and volunteer supervision.</p>
<p>4.   Travels to organize and coordinate training events, state and regional conferences, visibility events, or other large events and conferences.</p>
<p>5.   Works with staff to carry out Sierra Student Coalition campaign priorities.  Provides information, research, and other assistance to Sierra Student Coalition leaders, the public and others about the campaigns and priority issues.</p>
<p>6.   Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.</p>
<p>Standard Overtime:</p>
<p>The regular work schedule includes significant evening and weekend work as part of the standard 37.5 hours work week and will be arranged with the supervisor.  This job requires occasional overtime to meet special deadline projects, other staff absences, or emergencies.  Under these circumstances, overtime will rarely exceed 5 hours weekly, or 15 hours on a monthly basis.<br />
Knowledge &amp; Skills:<br />
§        Experience with at least one campus organizing or mobilization project or prior experience working with student volunteers in the environmental movement, political campaigns, or other, similar organizations to plan and implement grassroots campaigns.<br />
§        Able to travel as needed. Valid drivers license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.<br />
§        Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.<br />
§        Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly explain complex issues and effectively communicate them to student volunteers.<br />
§        Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the environment, energy, or related public interest issues.<br />
§        Proficient with computer skills including word processing.</p>

1. Fundraising and Donor Relations<br />
As a non‐profit, Community GroundWorks (CGW) is dependant on a diversified and successful fundraising plan. The Associate Director manages and implements the fundraising plan with the assistance of the Executive Director and the Board of Directors (Board).<br />
• Assist with the development of a strategic long‐term fund‐raising plan<br />
• Manage the fundraising plan on a day‐to‐day basis<br />
• Participate in fundraising for general administration, programs, site development and maintenance, through grantwriting, donor appeals, capital campaigns, special events, earned income, etc.<br />
• Assist the Executive Director in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with grant funders, and both private and corporate donors<br />
• Conduct grant research, writing, and reporting in collaboration with the Executive Director and program directors<br />
• Lead direct mail fundraising efforts through an annual appeal and a special appeal each year<br />
• Maintain complete and accurate fundraising records at all times</p>
<p>2. Community and Public Relations<br />
The Associate Director holds some outreach responsibilities and works closely with the Executive Director to present a strong, positive image of CGW programs, products and services to relevant stakeholders.<br />
• Assist with the production of key communication tools such as an e‐newsletter, other electronic sources and the<br />
Troy Gardens Gazette<br />
• Assist with the production of outreach materials (displays, brochures, flyers, articles, press releases, website and background materials)<br />
• Serve as a spokesperson for Community GroundWorks and Troy Gardens at site tours, events, media interviews, etc.</p>
<p>3. Administrative and Additional Responsibilities<br />
• Attend staff, board, and other relevant meetings as necessary<br />
• Coordinate volunteer program including volunteer recruitment<br />
• Provide various office duties to include telephone, paper and email communication<br />
• Assist with document review and editing<br />
• Take on additional tasks as directed by the Executive Director</p>
<p>Qualifications<br />
• Minimum of two years experience in nonprofit fundraising, including donor relations, grant writing and reporting<br />
• Ability to use computers, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access<br />
• Strong communication skills, including public speaking and writing<br />
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team<br />
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple demands<br />
• Experience working with volunteers, non‐profits, and community‐based organizations<br />
• Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, including children, the elderly, and people of diverse cultures<br />
• Ability to do physical work as needed<br />
• Familiarity with the Madison philanthropic community and local funders desired<br />
