Burning Tires is Not Renewable Energy

ELPC is working to defeat a bill in the Illinois legislature that would include burning tires in the state’s definition of renewable energy in order to benefit a suburban tire incinerator.

“This is the sort of cynical legislative maneuvering that makes people question the credibility of our elected officials,” ELPC Executive Director Howard Learner told the Chicago Tribune. “Burning tires is not clean, renewable energy by any credible definition.”
