Summer Intern

Position Description: The Summer Intern will research successful programs for previously or currently incarcerated young men to successfully transition them back into communities. The purpose of the research will be to help inform or develop a pilot program for young returning citizens who could be trained to support the Clean Energy industry, with a focus on energy efficiency.

Background/Objectives: Research has shown that young men’s brains are not fully developed under the age of 25 and community-based treatments are more effective for most juvenile and younger offenders. The Summer Intern’s research would support the development of a future reintroduction program that could involve energy efficiency training and support work in the EE industry. This project will include background research, data analysis, and writing a draft and final report summarizing findings. The project may also include support for development of a draft pilot program under the guidance of an Advisory Committee. The intern will likely be asked to make an oral presentation of research and findings.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate candidate in public policy, public administration, urban planning, law or another related field preferred. Seeking candidates with demonstrated interest in environmental justice, poverty, disadvantaged and/or criminal justice. Experience with and prior knowledge of criminal justice issues strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience completing research project(s).
