The Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC) seeks to hire a skilled, experienced, full-time Writer to join the Communications Team in our Chicago headquarters. The writer will engage the general public and ELPC constituents by writing content for ELPC websites, reports, emails, and other means. This is an extraordinary time in which ELPC’s effective legal and policy advocacy backed by strong public engagement is essential for protecting our core environmental values. The Writer will join ELPC’s first-rate communications team, partnering with our expert legal and policy advocates to advance climate change solutions, protect clean air and water, and restore the Great Lakes.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Joining ELPC’s communications team, the Writer will: (1) Create content and update information and stories on ELPCs suite of websites; (2) Work with ELPC’s program and communications team on major environmental and clean energy reports and marketing materials; (3) Write action alerts, monthly e-newsletter and other informational emails to ELPC supporters; and (4) Draft content and materials for ELPC’s development team as needed. Firm deadlines often apply.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of professional experience writing about public policy issues (e.g., journalism); prior work in environmental and energy communications and advocacy is a plus. The successful candidate will have excellent writing, research and proof-reading skills, a demonstrated record of being able to complete work on deadline, and have a passion for environmental issues. Candidates with experience using Adobe Creative Cloud are preferred. Background on clean energy, clean transportation and natural resource protection policy issues is valued. The Writer will work with a team of skilled professionals in a fast-paced environment where attention to details and follow-through is critical.
SALARY: This is a mid-level position requiring at least three years of professional experience. Salary of high $40s (for 3 years of experience) to low $60s (for 7+ years of experience). Excellent benefits provided.
