Hearing on Chicago Clean Power Ordinance Draws Hundreds of Supporters

Hundreds of supporters turned out today for a public hearing  on the Chicago Clean Power Ordinance. The Ordinance would clean up pollution from the outdated Fisk and Crawford coal plants located on Chicago’s Southwest Side. ELPC is a leading member of the coalition working to pass the ordinance. ELPC Senior Attorney Faith Bugel and Senior Law Fellow Warren Lavey provided expert testimony  on the scientific, economic and legal basis for the cleaning up pollution from the Fisk and Crawford plants. ELPC helped to draft the clean power ordinance and also authored the influential report on the public health costs of pollution from Fisk and Crawford.

ELPC has worked with Chicago’s mayoral candidates to educate them on the importance of cleaning up coal plant pollution.  All of the  candidates committed to reducing pollution from Fisk and Crawford in their responses to our Green Growth Platform survey.  The strong show of public support at today’s hearing sends a message that the people of Chicago want their city to take the lead on clean energy and better public health.
