Consumers Energy’s Smart Thermostat Program Will Save Michigan Families Money, Energy

Utility to provide Google Nest thermostats to up to 100,000 Michigan households during COVID-19

STATEMENT BY ROBERT KELTER
SENIOR ATTORNEY, ENVIRONMENTAL LAW & POLICY CENTER

“This is a great day for Consumers Energy customers, who are being provided with the tools to save money and energy. Don’t think of this program as 100,000 thermostats. Think of it as 100,000 families. Consumers’ program is helping 100,000 families — which is hundreds of thousands of Michiganders — save valuable dollars on their energy bills while helping the environment,” said ELPC Senior Attorney Robert Kelter, who heads the Midwest environmental group’s Energy Efficiency Program. “Consumers is really stepping up and showing itself to be a strong leader for its customers and advocate of the environment in Michigan, and we hope other utilities are taking notes.”
