Washington, DC – U.S. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has reportedly urged President Trump to repeal the federal “Endangerment Finding,” a statutorily required, science-based determination mandated by Congress for the agency to set greenhouse gas reduction standards applicable to coal and natural gas-fired power plants, vehicle tailpipes, and other sources under the Clean Air Act. EPA Administrator Zeldin’s recommendation is contrary to the overwhelming scientific consensus that carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gas pollutants endanger public health and the environment.
“The Trump administration’s misguided attempt to repeal the Engagement Finding is contrary to sound science, would violate federal statutes, and defies common sense. The U.S. EPA properly adopted the Endangerment Finding about 15 years ago based on well-established scientific facts and law.
This misguided Trump administration proposal comes at a time when climate change realities are abundantly clear and Americans experience record-high temperatures, wildfires, droughts, and flooding in places from Phoenix and Los Angeles, to Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, as well as derechos in the Midwest.”
