Illinois Legislation Boosts Renewable Energy, Equity and Distribution Grid Planning

SB 2408 will spur billions of dollars of investment in solar energy and wind power

Today, the Illinois Legislature passed legislation that will greatly increase renewable energy development. ELPC has worked for many years to accelerate renewable energy, and we are pleased SB 2408 will spur billions of dollars of investment in solar energy and wind power projects in Illinois. We are also pleased legislators focused on ensuring equity, and this bill provides significant funding for clean energy job training, contractor development, and solar deployment for communities that have historically borne the brunt of pollution.

SB 2408 also charts a detailed pathway to modernize the Illinois distribution grid for the future. The new Integrated Grid planning process can make Illinois a national leader if implemented well and provide a pathway to accelerate renewable energy deployment quickly, affordably, and equitably.

ELPC is proud of the major progress achieved on these vitally important actions for Illinois’ cleaner energy future.
