Samantha Suarez

As Digital Communications Strategist, Sam manages ELPC’s website, social media presence, e-newsletters, advocacy action alerts, and digital ads. Before joining ELPC in 2022, she was Environmental Defense Fund’s Senior Communications Specialist working under their Climate-Smart Agriculture initiative. Prior to that, Sam worked for four years with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., the city-building nonprofit entity in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She currently lives in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood with her spouse and two rescue dogs.

WHAT’S A PLACE YOU LOVE IN THE MIDWEST?

I love Saugatuck, MI because of its charming beach town vibe, thriving art scene, and its reputation as the most LGBTQ-friendly small town in Michigan.

WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO THIS WORK?

I see climate change as the most urgent issue we need to address as a society. It not only affects the environment itself but also every living creature in it. I would rather use my skills in marketing and communications to educate the public and drive legislative change instead of convincing people to buy things they don’t need.
