WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it proposes to repeal all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for coal- and gas-fired power plants.
STATEMENT FROM HOWARD LEARNER, CEO & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENTAL LAW & POLICY CENTER (ELPC):
“EPA is walking away from regulating pollution from coal and gas plants that demonstrably harms public health and our environment. This misguided retreat from common sense defies both science and long-established law. Greenhouse gases endanger public health, and EPA has a legal responsibility under the Clean Air Act to apply standards to reduce this pollution.
ELPC will continue advocating to reverse this flawed decision and protect the Midwest communities that depend on healthy, clean air and safe, clean water.”
