ELPC Thinks: A Bad Deal for Midwest Rivers

The Proposed Sale of Michigan Dams to Private Equity

Consumers Energy’s proposed sale of 13 small, old hydroelectric dams on Michigan rivers to a private equity firm in Maryland is a bad deal for energy affordability, for river conservation, and public access for outdoor recreation. Ratepayers and taxpayers are potentially left holding the bag for repairs and potential dam breaks.

Join ELPC, Michigan Trout Unlimited, and Anglers of the Au Sable to better understand why we are working to “stop the dam deal.” If you care about fishing in iconic blue-ribbon trout streams, protecting river habitat and biodiversity, and sensible energy policy and fair rates, this ELPC Thinks conversation will explain the impacts in Michigan and for the Midwest.
