Public transit in Chicagoland is facing a fiscal cliff. Unless lawmakers can fix it, we could see a 40% cut to transit service. Illinois deserves a world-class transit system that makes it safer, faster, and easier to get where you’re going.
Tell the legislature to pass transit funding and reform this October for a healthier, more sustainable future in Illinois.
Congress is moving forward with a dangerous bill that threatens the Great Lakes and clean water across the country. We need your voice now.
The PERMIT Act (H.R. 3898) weakens core protections in the Clean Water Act, one of our most important environmental laws. If passed, this bill would give industry permission to pollute lakes, rivers, and streams we depend on for drinking water, fishing, and recreation with toxic chemicals like PFAS and pesticides.
The bill could be up for a full House vote this week. It may be very close, so every vote counts!
A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturned decades of clean water protections that protect vital wetlands. Illinois does not have a comprehensive program to safeguard no longer federally protected wetlands.
Wetlands are nature’s purifier for our clean drinking water. They prevent the devastating consequences of floods and are critical habitats for diverse wildlife. It’s time for Illinois to step up and create permanent wetlands protections.
Decision-makers in Springfield are considering legislation, but they need to hear from you.
The City of Chicago has the chance to take a big step towards protecting the public health of all people with the Hazel M. Johnson Cumulative Impacts Ordinance. The ordinance would work to level the playing field between communities that have experienced the most environmental, social, and health burdens for decades. It would reform the zoning code and require a cumulative impacts study before new industrial developments receive zoning approval. We need your help to get it passed!
Tell your Alderperson to take action for Environmental Justice by passing the Hazel M. Johnson Cumulative Impacts Ordinance.
The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) is a bipartisan program that creates a system of coordination among federal agencies, state entities, and local partners to protect the Great Lakes. Since its inception in 2010, the program has achieved strong results in wetlands restoration, beach protection, clean-ups of toxic waste sites, and invasive species management.
Every dollar invested in GLRI comes back three-fold in additional economic activity in the Great Lakes region.
Tell Congress to reauthorize the GLRI this year AND appropriate the funds necessary to protect the Lakes!
