ELPC Victory Video: Toxic Dump to Lakefront Park

“Chicago’s lakefront is for people and parks, not toxic waste dumps.”

That was ELPC’s mantra for the last five-plus years as we partnered with the Alliance of the Southeast (ASE) and Friends of the Parks (FOTP) to push back against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ plans to build a 25-foot high toxic dredge waste dump along Lake Michigan’s shoreline on the Southeast Side of Chicago in an Environmental Justice community long overburdened with pollution.

Spoiler alert: we won!

This story highlights what ELPC does best:

• Engaging and working together with public officials to gain support.
• Working with the media to gain editorial support to win in the court of public opinion to better win in the court of law.

We did that in terrific partnership with our clients (and friends) the Alliance of the Southeast and Friends of the Parks who brought impactful community organizing and policy around protecting communities.
