Take Action! Save Public Transit in Illinois

Fill out a witness slip in support of public transit funding & governance reform

UPDATE: The House hearing for March 19th was rescheduled to Tuesday March 25th. That means there’s more time to submit a witness slip.

Public transit in Chicagoland is facing a fiscal cliff. Unless lawmakers can fix it, we could see a 40% cut to transit service. We can’t let transit fail, instead we can help it flourish. Illinois deserves a world-class transit system that makes it safer, faster, and easier to get where you’re going.

On Tuesday March 11, State Senators held a transit hearing in Chicago. Advocates galvanized over 700 witness slips of support! Thank you for taking action, now it’s time to do the same in the House!

On Tuesday, March 25, State House Representatives are holding a transit hearing. Tell them we need transit funding & reform for a stronger, healthier future in Illinois.

Instructions for Filling Out a Witness Slip

A witness slip is an official way to show support for a piece of legislation in Illinois. On Wednesday March 19, the House will be discussing HB1833, the Metropolitan Mobility Authority Act, which offers a strong vision for governance reform, with accompanying funding legislation. Here’s how to show your support:

  1. Visit this link and fill in your name, address, city, zip code, email, and phone number.
  2. For “firm, business, or agency,” write ELPC, and for “title” write “NA.”
  3. Under “Representation: persons, groups, firms represented in this appearance,” write Self.
  4. Under “Position” for the “subject matter” select HB 1833 then select “proponent.”
  5. Under “Testimony” select “record of appearance only.”
  6. On the bottom left, check the box marked “I agree to the ILGA terms of agreement.”
  7. On the bottom right, click the button marked “create slip.”

Public Transit is Essential

Transportation is the leading source of climate pollution in Illinois. Public transit is a solution! It’s one of the most sustainable and efficient ways to travel, as every rider’s trip on a train or bus means one less car on the road. Illinois has some of the best transit infrastructure in the country, but it has been underfunded and broken for years. It’s time to bring our public transit back to life with funding and reform.

Every trip on a bus or train means one less car on the road.

Let’s seize this opportunity to rethink the system, improve region-wide travel, and make sure our public funds are spent wisely. Tell your state leaders that we need better funding and governance reform in Illinois’ public transportation system.

Thank you for taking action to protect our vital public transit system.
