President Biden Signs Landmark Legislation Investing in Climate Change Solutions

Now the work begins to turn federal tax incentives into real climate change actions and solutions.

President Joe Biden today signed the Inflation Reduction Act, a landmark piece of legislation that will fuel the nation’s economic growth while combatting climate change.

“Now the work begins to turn federal tax incentives into real climate change actions and solutions,” said Howard Learner, Executive Director of the Environmental Law & Policy Center. “The Inflation Reduction Act breaks the ice for Congress to step up with further actions to alleviate the climate crisis.

“The $370 billion package will accelerate deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency, boost electric vehicle markets, and provide more vital support for Great Lakes coastal resilience. It provides $2 billion for the Rural Energy for America Program boosting clean energy opportunities for small and medium-sized farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses.

“ELPC will work across the Midwest to effectively implement the “carrots” in this important legislation while continuing our climate change solutions advocacy for strong and effective federal regulatory standards to improve vehicle efficiency and reduce pollution from power plants.”
