WASHINGTON, DC — The Senate voted to pass its “megabill” that, among many other issues, rolls back key environmental protections and renewable energy development incentives. The bill now returns to the House, giving Members of Congress one final opportunity to stand up for the Great Lakes, clean energy jobs, manufacturing, and investment in the Midwest.
Statement of Howard Learner:
CEO and Executive Director, Environmental Law & Policy Center
“This misguided legislation will harm American’s quality of life, cost jobs, hurt our economy, and run up the national debt. The Senate’s megabill sadly retreats from America’s long-term investments in healthy clean air, safe clean water, and public health that are broadly supported by Americans across red, blue, and purple states and have improved our lives.
Americans will be angry when the real-world consequences take effect — damage to our Great Lakes, harm to public health, job losses, and higher costs from stalling sensible renewable energy development. This deeply misguided policy puts polluters first and leaves communities behind.”
