ELPC Thanks IL Members of Congress for Fed Funds to Revitalize Chicago’s Union Station

“This is good news for Chicago, for Illinois, and for the Midwest”

Statement by Kevin Brubaker, Deputy Director

U.S. Senators from Illinois Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, and U.S. Representative from Illinois Mike Quigley today announced $93.6 million awarded for the Chicago Hub Improvement Project (CHIP) for Intercity Passenger Rail grant program, which received funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. CHIP is Amtrak’s multi-phased project aimed at revitalizing Chicago’s Union Station and boost Midwest passenger rail.

“This federal grant puts Chicago on track for dramatic improvements to Union Station,” said Kevin Brubaker. “This station is the hub for both Metra’s regional service and Amtrak’s Midwest service, so improvements here will benefit riders nationwide. This is good news for Chicago, for Illinois, and for the Midwest.”
