ELPC is a leading Midwest organization, focusing our efforts in the 9-state region comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Our headquarters are located in Chicago, IL, and we also have regional offices in Columbus, OH; Des Moines, IA; Duluth, MN; Jamestown, ND; Sioux Falls, SD; Madison, WI; and Washington, D.C.
Some of our work occurs at the state level, and we use progress in one state as a model for other states to follow – a “highest common denominator” approach to policy development across the region.
Other work occurs at the regional level because so many of our systems are regional in nature – e.g., the spoke-and-wheel Midwest High-Speed Rail Network radiating out from Chicago to small and large cities within a 400-mile radius; the MISO energy transmission grid that touches all of the states where ELPC works; the Mississippi River that touches half of the states where ELPC works and has a watershed that reaches nearly the entire country; and the Great Lakes, which are both a regional and national treasure.
Still many of the issues that ELPC advances on-the-ground throughout the Midwest are dependent on funding and policy decisions that happen at the national level.
